Hand therapy and splinting are usually a big part of recovery after open surgery for Dupuytren's contracture. Despite a drive for evidence based medicine, evidence for the effectiveness of splinting after open Dupuytren's surgery is still elusive. Thanks for these links - still, strong statistical evidence is lacking in these studies. Given the slow, unpredictable course of Dupuytren's, we may never be able to have proof of whether splinting helps or hurts after surgery for Dupuytren's. Medicine is not a science - it is an art influenced by science. It never hurts to keep your eyes open.
